HOT: The Champions League set a return date after the COVID-19 pandemic

According to a reliable source from Sky Sports, the remaining matches of the European Cup will witness an unprecedented schedule.

The Champions League was postponed in mid-March due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. UEFA hope to end the tournament at the end of August, but there will be major changes to the format and must play behind closed doors.

Accordingly, matches from the quarterfinals of the Champions League will be held within 12 days in Lisbon. It is likely that the matches will take place in 2 stadiums in Lisbon, Estádio da Luz and Estadio Jose Alvalade.

It is expected that the above plan will be approved by the UEFA Executive Committee next Wednesday, the proposed specific schedule is:

  • Quarterfinals: From 12-15 August
  • Semifinals: From August 18-19
  • Final: August 23

Meanwhile, the schedule for the remaining 4 matches in the round of 16 teams has not been decided. The most notable match was the second leg between Manchester City and Real Madrid, this heroic letter should have taken place on March 17 before being postponed due to Covid-19.

According to a UEFA document released by AFP, August 29 could be selected as the date of the Champions League final this season.

The New York Times reported that this season’s Champions League final will be moved from the Turkish city of Istanbul to another location. Portugal’s capital Lisbon or cities in Germany have emerged as potential venues for organizing all the remaining matches.

Regarding the Europa League, the final decision has not been made yet. But according to some opinion, this tournament will also apply the same format as the Champions League, with the location being either Frankfurt or Düssre of Germany.

According to Sky Sports, the schedule and venue for Euro 2020 have also been completed and UEFA will be announced soon. The 12 host cities initially confirmed very confident in hosting the tournament next summer.

Euro 2020 play-offs are expected to be completed before Christmas, with matches held in October and November.
